Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

1. We don't track your scans

At EtchedQR, our entire business model is built around respecting your privacy. Because we encode URLs directly into the QR codes you generate, we do not—and cannot—track who scans your codes or when they are scanned.

2. Information We Collect

Site analytics: We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to understand general traffic trends. We also use Google Analytics (gtag.js), which sets cookies to measure visits; see Google's own privacy policy for how it handles that data.

Contact form: If you reach out via our contact form, we collect the name and email address you provide, solely to respond to your inquiry. We don't add you to marketing lists or sell this information.

Newsletter: If you subscribe on our blog, we collect your email address and store it with our email provider, Resend, so we can send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email, or by contacting us.

Optional AI "Auto-label" feature: The QR generator includes an optional "Auto-label" button. If you click it, the destination URL you're encoding is sent from our server to Google's Gemini API to generate a suggested title, description, and category for that link. We don't store the URL or the AI's response afterward, but Google processes it as part of generating the result — see Google's privacy policy for how they handle API requests. This only happens if you click the button; it does not run automatically while you type or generate a code.

3. QR Code Generation

The URL you enter is used in your browser to render the QR code matrix, and the resulting image is generated and downloaded entirely on your device — we do not store it in a database. The one exception is the optional Auto-label feature described above, which sends the URL to our server and on to Google's Gemini API only when you explicitly trigger it.

4. Third-Party Services We Use

Vercel (hosting, analytics, speed insights), Resend (contact form and newsletter emails), Google (Analytics/gtag for site measurement; Gemini API for the optional Auto-label feature). Each provider only receives the data necessary for the specific feature described above, and processes it under its own privacy policy.

5. How Long We Keep Data

Contact form messages and newsletter subscriber emails are kept until you ask us to delete them or unsubscribe. We don't retain destination URLs from QR code generation or from the Auto-label feature after the request completes. Website analytics data is retained by Vercel and Google under their own standard retention windows.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR in the EU/UK or CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you (contact-form and newsletter emails), and to opt out of non-essential analytics. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@etchedqr.com and we'll respond as required by applicable law.

7. Children's Privacy

EtchedQR is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

8. International Data Transfers

Our service providers (Vercel, Resend, Google) may process data on servers located outside your country of residence. By using EtchedQR, you understand your data may be transferred to and processed in other countries with different data protection laws.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Material changes affecting newsletter subscribers or contact-form data will be communicated by email where feasible.

10. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at hello@mail.etchedqr.com or use our Contact form. See also our Terms of Service.
